Just a quick post to anyone looking to connect a Wii to the web, particularly since the very popular release in the UK of the BBC iPlayer channel Wii app.
I have produced a guide, Connecting the Nintendo Wii to the Internet . Includes information on Nintendo’s “Connection Ambassador” promotion in Europe, intended to get more Wii owners connected.
Hope you find the guide useful.

I thought the Wii went on the web, or is that only in the US?

Hi Tami. Yes, the Wii does have web connectivity built-in. It’s just that a lot of people have got by without it, perhaps because they didn’t know how to set it up or perhaps they just never bothered.
In fact, Nintendo Europe have a “Connection Ambassador” promo that’s been running for about a month, whereby if you provide technical know-how to a non-connected Wii owning friend, you and your friend both get 500 Wii Shop points when that person gets online. There’s a 20 friend cap, I think.
This has become more interesting with the recent release (for UK only) of the BBC iPlayer Wii channel.

I’ve added details of the Connection Ambassador promotion to the guide.
